“Rainbows Plus” teaches 28 words that students need to know about colors, numbers and shapes. The words are presented in five groups: “Colors of the rainbow” shows the colors in the order that they appear in a rainbow or spectrum: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet. (We omitted the word “indigo,” and retained the word “violet” that is used in listing the colours of the rainbow, though most students will prefer the word “purple.”) “Interesting colors” presents six colors -- black, white, pink, silver, gold and brown. “Odd numbers” is the English term for the numbers 1-3-5-7-9. “Even numbers” is the term for the numbers 2-4-6-8-10. Students might be interested in the word zero (0). “Shapes” are a circle, a triangle, a square, a diamond, a rectangle and an octagon. The word “diamond” is commonly used for the illustrated shape, but the mathematical term for that shape is “rhombus.”
Of course there are many other words to be learned about other colours, numbers greater than ten, and geometrical shapes. Ask a member of your community if you need to know a particular word.

This suite of eight user-friendly apps is intended to introduce vocabulary to students who are learning English.
In all activities in each app, students will see a graphic, read the English word, and hear the word spoken by an accomplished teacher. Students are invited to participate in four activities: "Lets learn" (words are repeated with ample time for the student to practice saying them); "Lets practice" (a drag and drop activity matching printed words with pictures); "Lets play" (a game in which students match graphics and sound); and "Quiz" (students must choose the correct picture for a written and spoken word). Even young students who do not yet read will be able to use all activities because the sound is always attached to graphics and word boxes.
